Jhon Jarly, a third-generation coffee farmer, has dedicated his life, along with his wife and children, to nurturing their family farm. For Jhon, coffee farming is more than just a livelihood—it’s a way to keep their rich family tradition alive. With the rise of specialty coffee and the challenges of fluctuating prices, Jhon’s family embraced this movement by cultivating high-quality varieties, including the unique Caturron featured in this lot.
Their attention to detail shines through in every step of the process. From selective handpicking to meticulous visual sorting, they ensure only the finest cherries are chosen. The cherries are carefully dried on raised beds, frequently raked to ensure even drying over a span of 20 to 25 days, resulting in a truly premium coffee.
Caturron is one of the exciting new varieties in Huila, Colombia. According to Juan Andres Gutierrez, Specialty Supply Chain Coordinator at Sucafina Colombia, this variety may have originated from an abandoned research project near Acevedo, Huila, and has since spread across the region. Though its genetics remain a mystery, Caturron’s distinctive flavors have captured the attention of local farmers, who are eager to cultivate and share this special coffee.
We are thrilled to bring you this rare and delicious variety from Huila and hope you enjoy it as much as we do at Society Coffee Roasters & Sucafina. In | Out | Extract | |
